Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy that uses hypnosis to help you achieve your goals. It is a safe and effective way to help you overcome your difficulties, such as anxiety, depression or insomnia. Hypnotherapy can also be used to treat other conditions such as stress-related illnesses or addictions & phobias.


Will I be in control?

Yes, you will be in control during the session. You will be awake and alert throughout the hypnosis process and you can stop the session at any time if you feel uncomfortable. You will not be asleep during hypnosis, but rather in a state of relaxed concentration called "trance". A trance state is similar to the state you are in when you are engrossed in a movie or reading a brilliant book. You may have even experience this state whilst driving and completely missed your turning or have gone the wrong way.


Your therapist will speak to you softly or ask questions as they guide you through relaxation exercises that help eliminate stressors from your mind so that they can access your subconscious mind for the therapy session.


Will I go to sleep?


No, you will not fall asleep during the session. Hypnotherapy is different from sleep therapy in that it involves the client remaining awake and aware throughout the treatment. When you do feel relaxed, it will be because your mind has been cleared of its worries and thoughts so that your body can relax naturally.



How long will a hypnotherapy session last?

The length of a session depends on the type of problem you are working on and how long it has been going on for. A typical session lasts between 1-2 hours, your therapist will give you a sense of how many sessions will be needed for effective treatment.

The length of time needed for each individual's treatment depends on their unique needs; some people require only one or two sessions while others may require more frequent visits over an extended period of time (for example: three months).



What does it feel like?


Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation. You are in control of your thoughts and feelings, so you can't be made to do anything that you don't want to do and after your session you will feel deeply rested like you've had a good nights sleep.

It can also be reprogrammed so that you can overcome issues, thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are no longer serving you and are creating problems in your life.
